Caring vs empathy

We need to have a deep desire to care for others. Sometimes we just have empathy or sympathy for others in need. This is not what God is calling us to do. He wants us to care for others when a need is identified. Sympathy does nothing for the need of another person. Jesus had compassion for others; ...

God's not Walmart

God does indeed provide for all of our needs. But He is not Walmart in that He provides things just because we may think we need or want them. God's provision is based upon in Divine presence in our lives. God know's what we need and why! He does listen to our prayers and responds accordingly. God h...

Green pastures= resources

God gives us a vision for the ministry he wants us to do! He when provides us with the resources we need to do that ministry (green pastures) I think these resources aren't just resources like money, materials, supplies, etc. I think they are spiritual as well. Like a peaceful spirit, successful tea...

Just the facts

I enjoyed reading this post. As followers of Jesus Christ we often make the gospel to complicated. We use terminology that people don't understand and seems confusing at best. It really comes down to a "Holy God" wanting humanity to have a last chance at salvation. Jesus is that chance. He...

Who's Sheep

I needed to see this post! At times I get very stressed in working with dysfunctional families. I get stressed that I need to find all the solutions and find protection for the children. I need to remember that they belong to Him and they are created in His image. I good thought for tonight!

The true shepherd

I agree! We are to be shepherds of those around us. This would include our families, friends, and others we can serve. I know that God has been working to serve those in need. Part of this is shepherding them in the right direction towards wholeness and self-sufficiency. Sometimes people are like sh...

true leadership

Having the heart and mind of a servant is critical for being an authentic leader. It is not about processes and programs. It is about the love and serve we provide for other people. We see the world through a different set of lens when we have the heart of a servant. Our ultimate servant example was...

Good hospitality

I find THIS concept very interesting! At Family Promise we call our shelter program the interfaith hospitality network. It is a network of congregations that provides shelter, meals, and friendship to homeless families. Hospitality is indeed a valuable resource in our culture. People don't really ta...

Learning the lesson!

Well said! I know that in my own leadership. If my devotional life is not active, my leadership suffers. I need many hours with God in order to have the discernment needed for being a good leader. Sometimes I just what to push through and get things done. This is when things really begin to fall apa...

Finding the trail

I recently went hiking with my wife in NC, we got lost! This is the way I feel now that I am close to finishing seminary. I have been working in the non-profit sector for the past 4.5 years working with homeless families. I am seeking God's direction as I try to see the future of the ministry I now ...

A time in the Wilderness

I feel like at am currently in in the Wilderness. Trying to finish school and find the true calling God has on my life. He has me working with the least and the lost and I am truly humbled. Yet I find my strength and resources pushed to the limit. Just like walking or hiking in the desert I am quick...
