What Really Matters

I remember when I first told my parents that I wanted to be a pastor. They asked the question, “Do you really have the heart for it?” They were concerned that I was chasing the glory of ministry and not the hard heart of ministry. This reflection reminded me of that interaction. I, too, often ask our leaders if our hearts are in what we do. I do this out of the ministry leadership principle I learned and follow, not because I am responding like a Jordanian Bedouin.

This reflection reminded me of why I am following Jesus in the first place. I recently read a book that reminded me that before I chose to follow Jesus, He called me first. And he calls me because he has a “heart” for me. Simply, he loves me. I want to also have a heart for people in ministry as Jesus does for me.
