Day 18 Facing the Lions

I went after it.

This statement reminded me of military and first responder stories I have heard about running toward danger. I searched and read about the marines and I learned that responses to danger are intentional and calculated, not reckless. Reckless leads to unnecessary death or injury. Intentional and calculated considers the risk and return. Protecting others can come at the cost of your life. My reputation has taken hits facing the lions. Like Christ before his accusers, I’ve remained silent to protect sources of information or the reputation of others. A small way of experiencing some of the suffering that Christ endured.

I’ve made an adjustment in this past decade to run toward danger instead of hiding, ignoring or running away from it. Not recklessly, but intentional, bathed in prayer and trusted and wise counsel. As I recount the number of major events, I see the devil’s claw marks all over and around the circumstances as well as the scars in the people he used or attempted to use. Sadly, I’ve faced more “Christian” lions than not. Satan continues to use the same play book, choosing “divide and conquer” as his primary strategy. The wedges vary and included; pride, greed, lust, fear, stubbornness and addiction. The difference maker in every battle was knowing Gods Word, the equivalent of five smooth stones and a sling. Knowing and understanding Gods word allowed me to sift through everything that was thrown at me. It also equipped me to see my sinful responses in or following conflict as I replayed the circumstances in my mind, heart and in prayer. Confession consistently deescalated conflict. All this has built a house of courage, boldness and love to face the lions and pray for my enemies. To Christ be the glory.
