Tensions of Ministry

Post by Lynn Grandsire »

Day 35 brought to the forefront the tension between the administrative duties of the shepherd for the entire flock as well as the need to be with individual people within the flock. I have a hard time balancing these two realities. Deadlines for administrative details and documents are always pressing in and in the midst of my caring ministries crisis always crops up, and then there is the care for those in the chronic everydayness of issues that is ever present. the issue for me is not seeing the picture, but is the ability to balance all of them together in a large congregation. Life often feels like I have to make choices between flock or family and one or the others loses, or I lose my own self to accomplish more than i can or maybe should accomplish.

The thought of shepherd of the entirety with administration is helpful as it is a role of the shepherd. The administrative issues to be dealt with do impact people and I need to remember that as I go about these duties in the midst of others things pulling at my life and time.
