I lived in the city. I do not have much idea about a shepherd. Perhaps, few of us in this post-industrial, postmodern culture have ever actually seen a shepherd. However, Timothy S. Laniak reminds me that shepherds appear throughout the biblical narratives. He writes the shepherd imagery with a broader understanding of pastoral metaphors in extra-biblical writings and context. He helps me to get a better understanding of what Scripture means and how it uses the metaphor of the Shepherd. From there, and throughout the rest of the book, Laniak guides us through all of Scripture, covering both the Old and New testaments. Laniak successfully connected the dots of the shepherd imagery from the extra-biblical writings to the Old and New testaments. So, for me “Shepherds after My own Heart†is a wonderful book. _________________ Budiyanto |
