"Acknowledgments"

Are you a person who likes to "handle" a book and read all the material surrounding the body of the book before you start? Maybe you like to flip through for pictures or the index or "about the author"...When I began the 40 day journey in While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks I was embraced by the aesthetics of the book, and as I entered in, I found rich and thoughtful provision for my soul. But before I began, I read everything up to "Acknowledgments" and after. Every leader is part of an extended network of family, friends, mentors, and more. Like those lists of names in Chronicles, every one counts, every one matters. However, even if the nursing mother in Isaiah forgets, "the Lord will not forget you." As I journey forth now, a second time, into this experience of the shepherd and his/her world may I be aware of the multitude of ways my Good Shepherd provides, protects and guides me.

I would agree with our comments about looking at some of the surrounding material (comments, pictures, etc.) before diving in to read. I guess it helps the reader (me) to get a feel for what is inside.
Having said that, from the "Introduction", I was sold and knew this 40-day journey would be one of enormous benefit. In fact while it is designed for a 40-day time of prayerful reflection and revelation - once you started reading it was difficult to stop.

We all are indebted to Dr. Laniak for sharing this wonderful, educationally rewarding experience with the rest of us. One would agree, that the role and responsibility of the "shepherd" has not been exhausted, however, this book sure sheds some light and opens ones eyes to a fresh look at what is "shepherding" from a biblical perspective and appreciate the divine leadership of "Provider", "Protector" and "Guide".
