"We need to be both strategic and gentle in our service. Casualties come to some that are 'driven hard,' especially in the name of ministry" (p. 75).
I am tempted to drive hard when I believe a particular strategy for ministry is right. Several years ago another colleague and I pushed hard for a strategy with our team members and national church leadership in Congo. We believed it would help our church planting efforts be more effective. In the end, our ideas were not accepted, and we lost credibility with other leaders especially in the church.
I appreciated this topic in that I want to be gentle in leading. I want to take care of those who are young and who are mothers. Not pushing hard, but leading in gentleness. We see Jesus' responding with gentleness to his disciples and those that followed him.
I want to accept the call to be a midwife and nurse. _________________ Ron Julian |
