The question was raised as to whether it be in preaching, counseling, or other kinds of teaching, what do we feed those we serve? I recently received a lead and request to candidate at a church that had been without a pastor for nearly two years. While receiving information about the church and its members, I was told that they had they had been "yelled at" for years, and just needed someone "to teach" them.

If true, this is a sad indictment on the previous pastor/teacher. What are we feeding those we serve? Do they eat from the trough of fear, insecurity, doubt, entitlement, or other items of the world? Or, do we feed the fruit of the spirit, love, joy, peace, the grace of God? Do we feed the "joy" of entertainment or tickle their ears with words that appease? Or, do we teach the truth, and teach them how to feed themselves?

Our sheep - those that we have been given an immense responsibility from God - should continue to grow into the likeness of God. Our role should not be taken lightly.
