Christ’s under shepherds are called to be an extension of his compassionate healing ministry. There was a reminder here that shepherding is a relational enterprise. The Middle Eastern shepherd got up close to his sheep to inspect them and to treat and heal the afflicted sheep. This aspect of shepherding is high touch.

Jesus established a ministry that involved the healing of the whole person: body and soul.
Jesus preached, taught, drove out demons and healed the sick as part of his ministry. Jesus
In Luke 9, the 12 are sent out to reproduce the ministry of Jesus.
In Luke 10, the ministry of Jesus is expanded beyond the apostolic circle to the 72.
In James 5, the healing ministry of Jesus is established as part of the fabric or DNA of congregational life.
