“Mothers need to be mothered.”: As a young, overwhelmed mother of three little lambs, Mandy often struggled with the “expectations” placed on her (and other young mothers) by the church to serve in the nursery, “use her spiritual gifts in a ministry area,” etc. Also, she was frequently disheartened by the lack of older, wiser mothers coming alongside of her and other younger mothers to assist/impart wisdom in the crucial ministry of raising children, like the example suggested by Paul in Titus 2.
I am watching young family after young family fall apart under the overwhelming demands of birthing and raising their little lambs. I am becoming more convinced that as pastors, we need to be coming alongside these families, asking how we can serve them during this hectic season rather than expecting them to lead a ministry team, volunteer in the nursery, etc.
