Sleepless

There are many nights when the day is over, that we flop into bed feeling like once again, the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual tank is completely drained. A day is done and we are spent. The sense of success of having given out is balanced out by the discouraging feeling of exhaustion. It would be noble to say that this is just a case of caring for the flock, but in reality it is a combination of flock plus family plus life. We are pulled in many directions, some of our own choosing and some beyond our choosing but we are promised new strength to run and not be weary in the race and in the fold. We are prone to say yes to too many events and responsibilities which make us feel important and usefuly. We are prone to pack our schedules too full and leave little time for soul repair. There is a balance to be reached in self-care that enables a life to actually have the health to give and self-pampering which avoids being spent for others at any cost. A healthy life can bear the weight of responsibility without collapsing under the load. Remembering to abide brings us the promise of a life well spent that bears fruit and brings God glory.
