Second, The author talked about the welfare of the sheep and the condition and growth of a flock depends greatly on the care, attentiveness and skill of the shepherd. The responsibility of pastors and other leaders is to make sure to provide the sheep clean water and food and keep them safe from scorching heat or drought and dehydration of death. The right balance of eating, drinking and resting is essential. Also, shepherds have to be vigilant regarding diseases that easily ravage a flock, keep an eye on menacing threats in the wilderness. The natural enemies of sheep are like wolves, bears, leopards and lions. These enemies usually target the young ones. A shepherd needs to be vigilant, strong, compassionate, skillful to find food, knowledgeable in healing the sheep, and ready to fight back predators. This is a responsible and rewarding job. Ministers need lot of grace and strength from the Lord to do this risky job. As a pastor I ask God’s guidance and wisdom every day to do this responsibility faithfully.
