It is important to remember that pastoral imagery surrounding Israel involvement in the narrative of shepherds and flocks throughout the wilderness is related to geographic locations and personal cultural chronicles. The wilderness life was an important period for the Israelites because that was the time their nation was formed. The plot centered on God’s promises to Abraham and his descendants; God’s presence in protecting, providing and guiding them; and Moses’ leadership role as a prophet and priest to them in the desert. The numerous challenges’ Israel encountered while in the wilderness was supposed to be reminder lessons learned during their travel. Despite the consequences, the Shepherd's flock wandered off to worship idols; but God’s promises for them to carry his name to other nations, reflect His holiness and righteousness and in letting the world know about Him and His blessings remained constant as Israel’s Shepherd.
